Former WHITE ZOMBIE Bassist SEAN YSEULT - Retrospective Art Exhibit Viewing For Los Angeles Announced
February 1, 2016, 8 years ago
Sean Yseult, formerly of New York based band, White Zombie will exhibit her solo art show in Los Angeles, California on March 18th at Lethal Amounts Gallery.
In Soirée D'evolution, Yseult presents a series of tableaux vivants documenting the soiree of a historically inspired secret society set in a lavish Garden District mansion of New Orleans, circa 1873. Each four by six foot print exhibits an intimate knowledge of New Orleans' history and flirtations with the romantic occult. Though inspired by the grisly depictions of the 17th century Dutch Masters and the high society culture of 19th century New Orleans, Soirée D'evolution is firmly rooted in the present through its use of macabre humor and vibrant colors. Each print is a storyboard for a narrative of murder, mayhem, and excess in which The Omniscient Oracles of the Occult revel in the decay and decadence of celebration for the Greek philosopher and Deteriorationist, Hesiod.
Sean Yseult is best known as the bass player from the multi-platinum, band White Zombie. Sean spent her formative years studying piano, violin, and later ballet at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Her senior year of high school, she switched majors to visual arts. Her photography work lead to a scholarship at Parsons School of Design NYC, where she earned a BFA in photography and graphic design. While at Parsons she co-founded the band White Zombie. After eleven years of recording and touring, the band was headlining arenas with two multi-platinum records, two grammy nominations, and had become a household name. Upon White Zombie's breakup, she moved to New Orleans in 1996 and returned to her original love of photography and design. She soon met her future husband Chris Lee, and in 2002 they founded the infamous Saint Bar and Lounge. Sean began showing photography in galleries in 2002, and in 2006 started Yseult Designs, with her scarves and accessories represented in Barneys and Liberty of London. In 2010 she released an autobiographical photo-book, I'm In The Band (Soft Skull Press), now in it's third edition. Her first solo photography show debuted in 2012 at the Scott Edwards Gallery.
Lethal Amounts gallery focuses on subversive and counter culture themes throughout history, addressing the social and artistic value of underground movements while highlighting taboo topics. We take an interest in showcasing the extremes of rock 'n roll of the past that has crossed over into pop culture fanaticism, street culture influences and cult hero worship.
