James Cartledge from Birminghammail.net is reporting:
Emotional tributes were paid to Midland rock legend Phil Lynott on what would have been the THIN LIZZY founder’s 60th birthday.
Lynott was born at what is now Sandwell General Hospital on August 20, 1949 and was christened at St Edward’s Church in Selly Park.
He later moved to Manchester and then Dublin, where he grew up and found fame in the early 1970s with Thin Lizzy, whose hits included 'The Boys Are Back In Town' and 'Whiskey In The Jar'.
But Lynott died of heart failure and pneumonia aged just 36 in January 1986 after struggling with drug and alcohol problems.
Paying tribute to his former bandmate, ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham said: “Man, you don’t realise how quick the years have gone until someone reminds you that Phil would have been 60.
“He had such a huge impact on so many people around the world, I know he did with everyone that played in Thin Lizzy. To this day he is still missed by all of us.”
