Taking their name from a river where Alexander the Great achieved his first important victory over the Persians, Granicus were signed to RCA Records and released their now infamous self-titled debut in 1973. The original vinyl version of the album has become a highly sought after item by collectors of obscure 70’s hard rock. Their sound has been compared to LED ZEPPELIN and GRAND FUNK RAILROAD.
The band was dropped by RCA after receiving little commercial success and support from the label. There have rumors over the years that the band recorded a second album that was never released. Those rumors have been proven to be true.
With the help of longtime band friend and confidant Gregg Ream, Granicus reunited in 2009 to complete work on this long lost album. The tapes, originally recorded in 1973 and 1974, had been discovered accidentally but were missing vocals. Lead vocalist Woody Leffel, who still keeps journals of new lyrics, finished writing and entered the studio to record the songs.
The album, Thieves, Liars, And Traitors, was self-released by the band in the fall of 2010. The CD is available through the band’s website at this location.
