HADES guitarist Dan Lorenzo has posted a new blog on his website about his experience at Germany's Bang Your Head festival. Read the post below:
“I just got home from Germany three hours ago. I've been awake almost 24 hours straight. I must admit now that I am So glad Hades vocalist Alan Tecchio talked me into playing at the Bang Your Head festival. It's not that I don't love a free trip to Europe but July is in the middle of my basketball season. I had to shut down hoops for three weeks prior to this weekend's show to protect my fingers. Yeah, I know...I play guitar as if my fingers are all broken anyway. Alan, myself, Scott LePage, T. Coombs and Kevin Bolembach had a fucking blast this weekend. We played almost all songs from the first two Hades CDs because that was what we had prepared for the Keep It True festival that we were supposed to play in April before the volcano forced our cancellation. We hadn't seen Scott since our show in Jersey in April so we had to keep the same set. We did play 'Voodoo' by SABBATH because the festival's organizers wanted every band to do something to honour Dio.Our trip started in typical Hades fashion... something went wrong. When we landed in Stuttgart from Amsterdam (via Newark airport) two things were missing. Kevin's bass and my luggage. Thanks KLM! We boarded the shuttle bus and quickly found out what super nice guys FATES WARNING were. I think I may have busted their balls once or twice if I remember correctly. It's what I do. We also shared the shuttle with JJ French and the happiest person I have ever met in my life Attila the touring (second) guitarist for NEVERMORE. This kid was all smiles at every moment.
We all had separate hotels. The three Hades guys (LePage had yet to fly in) wanted to go right to sleep. I needed food. I asked the hotel owner if I could eat in the hotel restaurant. He said it was closed. He told me to get in to his car. He drove me about one mile on a lonely road in the middle of nowhere. I was quite sure he was going to kill me. He dropped me off in a field where I met four members of the band ARTILLERY. We walked another two miles together and ate lunch together. Nice guys. I think they smoked about six-and-a-half cartons of cigarettes in the hour we had lunch together. I tried telling them how my father finally quit smoking: He died at age 47, My age! My story fell upon deaf ears. I told them I take six vacations a year with the money I save from not smoking. They told me "Every cigarette is like a holiday unto itself."
Holy shit, I really have to go to bed. Tomorrow I will tell you about my conversations with Lips (ANVIL), Jeff Loomis (Nevermore) and why I will from this day forward always feel a kinship with Jim Matheos from Fates Warning.”
