HADES guitarist Dan Lorenzo has posted the second part of his blog covering his experience at Germany's Bang Your Head festival this past weekend. Read the post below: Go to this location to read Part 1.
"Although our show was not until Saturday, we went to the Bang Your Head Festival Friday night to check out the scene. Kevin and I were bummed our luggage (my clothes/his bass) were still stuck in Amsterdam. It was hot. Real hot. Our hotel had no air conditioning. It reminded me of Hades' first European tour in May/June 1989. Hot then too. Few, if any of the hotels had air conditioning. Every time we would ask the hotel owner why, they would always say the same thing. 'Usually it does not get this warm.' Twenty one years later...the same thing. The festival was packed when we arrived at about 7pm. Over 20,000 people. We had missed a bunch of bands, but needed to eat first. Bang Your Head Festival supplied great meals for all the bands and journalists. I saw Lips and Rob from ANVIL backstage, but figured they were too famous now to remember me. We ate and walked around. Scott was still not in from London.
After surveying the scene I told Tom I just wanted to say hi to Lips real quickly. Maybe he would remember me from our show in Michigan in 2001. I assumed it would be a quick conversation. I said, 'Hey Lips. I don't know if you remember me- I'm Dan from Hades. I just wanted to tell you that I've put out a bunch of records, but I am very satisfied just hanging out with my wife and having had the limited amount of success I had. You deserve it much more than I.' Lips hugged me and said, 'I can see in your eyes that you're sincere and that there is no jealousy in your heart.' We talked for at least 20 minutes. Lips said that Hades or Anvil could have been in 'the big 4' and that all his recent success was just luck. I told him how much I hate being away from my wife for even a few days. He said he did too, but his family understands that this is the life he chose. Lips is really still the guy in the movie. You HAVE to root for the man. He is just so fucking pleasant.
I saw a lot of other faces I hadn't seen in years. Getting the vibe of the whole scene absolutely made me feel better about what to expect for our performance the next day. We watched HAMMERFALL perform from back stage, walked around a bit more and left to get some sleep. Too bad my Ambien CR were with my luggage. I was hoping I'd sleep a bit and I did.
We woke up Saturday morning and called the airport. They said my luggage and Kevin's bass would be brought to us right before we were to go onstage. We crossed our fingers and left for the festival at about 10:30 that morning. It was a bit cooler than the previous day and I thought I saw rain clouds. It couldn't possibly rain on Hades as we perform at an outdoor festival could it?"
