British extreme metallers IMPERIAL VENGEANCE have issued the following update from guitarist/vocalist C. Edward Alexander in regards to the band's cover of MADNESS' 'Night Boat To Cairo'.

"We never thought much about the idea of doing any covers. Seemed senseless to earn other people publishing money when we had uniforms and massive hats to buy. Madness have always been an act that were always in the background in both of our lives. Now don't get me wrong, I despise pop music. And pop culture. And the idiots that indulge in them, staring at the flickering, soulless televisual images over a family size bag of crisps with their cold dead eyes, gradually succumbing to the systematic dumbing down of the western world, whilst barely sentient pseudo-celebrities squawk imbecilic non-catchphrases at them through a veil of gawdy, factory line, abortive music and programming.

Anyway, Madness were - and are - an outfit that absolutely(!) deserve attention. Very clever musicians, and the soundtrack to a whole generation of British pub culture.

The subject matter of 'Night Boat' sits very comfortably within the world of Imperial Vengeance, and those familiar with our work will immediately understand the choice.

When I listen to music, I rarely hear the context or instrumentation first. It's the harmony and colour that jumps out initially, and with it's grandiose Eastern "Age of Discovery" passages, 'Night Boat To Cairo' immediately struck me as sounding like something that belonged in the Imperial Vengeance discography.

So I borrowed it."

The Night Boat To Cairo EP will be available for download soon. Further details to follow.
