October 17, 2011, 13 years ago
According to Billboard.com, JOURNEY has soared to the top of the Hot Tours rankings with box office grosses reported from outdoor amphitheaters and arenas during the North American summer leg of the Eclipse Tour. After launching the tour in late February, the band played Latin American and European dates during the spring before kicking off its U.S. and Canadian schedule in mid-July. The $21 million in box office grosses included in this week's tally come from 33 one-off performances that occurred from July 23 through the end of September. The largest crowd during the summer trek came from the Chicago market with 20,688 in attendance on July 30 at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in city of Tinley Park. The top-grossing venue was the 19,900-seat Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass. on Aug. 12. The Boston-area outdoor amphitheater brought in $962k from 15,470 tickets sold.
Journey are touring in support of their new album, Eclipse, with new singer Arnel Pineda.
