hot flashes news

Veteran Metal Radio DJ "Drewcifer" of 101.5FM KMKF K-Rock is preparing for his longest on-air shift in his 20-plus year career. This Saturday, April 23rd, Drewcifer will go on the air live at Noon CST and deliver 8 straight hours of metal from The Big Four - METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX

Says Drewcifer: "Since Indio, CA is almost 1,500 miles from here I figured we should just have our own Big 4 Festival here in the Central Midwest...on the radio! Yep, I'll be hosting an eight-hour marathon of Big 4 Metal for all the metal faithful here in Northeast Kansas and beyond. Not only will you hear some of the choicest studio tracks spanning the career of each band, but I'm also digging out the rarities and select live material as well from box sets, re-issues and even fan-club only goodies. Let's just say that what you hear on my 8-hour marathon could very well be much better that what will actually be played at the festival itself. Plus there won't be a 30-minute wait for the bathroom, you won't pay quadruple-prices for stale beer and cold pizza, and best of all everyone is guaranteed a great seat!"

In addition to Drewcifer's eight hours of Thrash goodness, he will also be getting live updates via cell phone from KNAC.com's DJ Will. In addition to hosting the Sunday program The Vault on KNAC.com, DJ Will recently became the in-house Metal deejay for VH1 Classic's That Metal Show.

"William is an absolute metal purist, and he and I launched The Vault together on KNAC.com back in 2002 when I lived in LA," Drewcifer continues. "I couldn't think of a better guy to have in the trenches of the Festival itself giving us updates between the bands' sets. He'll be letting us know what was just played by whom, and who joined who onstage for a rendition of what song. It's going to be the greatest thing for a Big 4 fanatic next to actually being at the festival. Who knows, maybe even better?"

Although Drewcifer has over two decades of on-air experience programming and hosting metal radio shows at the college, internet and commecial radio levels, this Saturday's marathon will be his longest continuous shift ever.

"At one time my old college Metal show was five hours long each week, but that's just over 60% of what I'm in for this Saturday. Most people think that being a radio deejay is simply sitting in front of board and computer pushing buttons and talking into a live microphone. But to actually be a presence that people enjoy listening to for an extended period you have to emit a level of enthusiasm at all times, not to mention being an expert on what you speak of as well as taking calls/requests, text messages, and doing updates via social networking. Constant attention, thinking and reaction is demanded. It can be very exhausting for even 3 or 4 hours, and I'm about to tackle a full 8-hour workday on the air. I seriously cannot wait!"

KMKF 101.5FM K-Rock is a Commercial/Active Rock station that celebrated it's 20th anniversary last October. Drewcifer's weekly Metal program, The Pit, airs on Sunday nights at 10pm CST. For more information or to listen live visit Purerock.com.
