The Geoff Tate-fronted QUEENSRŸCHE have decided to remix their new Frequency Unknown album after fan complaints about the sound. An official statement from the band's label Deadline Music/Cleopatra Records surfaced last week and reads as follows:

"Since previews of the new Queensrÿche album were made available to the general public on iTunes and other digital retailers, some of the response has been less than positive. Some complained about the overall quality of the recordings, and in particular the mix. We here at Deadline Music have the utmost confidence in the powerful songwriting and outstanding performances from Geoff Tate and crew on this album, but we also want the fans to know that we are listening to them as well! So, in the interest of democratic free choice, Deadline Music has commissioned the superbly talented musician/producer Billy Sherwood (ex-YES) to remix the album. Now fans will be able to decide which mix they feel best represents the album: the original mix, which will be released on April 23rd, or the new mix by Billy Sherwood that will be made available at a future date to be announced…. WE REMIX, YOU DECIDE!"

Engineer Glenn Fricker (WOODS OF YPRES, LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe) at Spectre Sound Studios has been tapped to remix the song 'Everything' and has posted the following update on his official blog page here:

"I’m dazed. There’s really no better word for it. Completely in awe that I was brought on board to remix a Queensrÿche song for the upcoming Frequency Unknown re-release.

A little background: I love Queensrÿche. I grew up listening to them. I had their poster for the Rage for Order album in my locker at school. I played 'Eyes Of A Stranger' endlessly, driving my family insane. Never in a million years did I even consider the glimmer of a possibility that I’d get to work on anything with the Queensrÿche name attached to it.

That all changed on April Fool’s day. I received an email from Brandon Wright, guitars/vocals for FINAL STAGE and fellow Queensrÿche nut. He had mentioned the upcoming release of Frequency Unknown and the fact that it was being remixed… or rather that the engineer brought in to remix the album had bowed out. At Brandon’s prodding, I sent an email to Cleopatra Records including my background and a Final Stage song with a very serious 'Queensrÿche vibe.' Much to my surprise, I received a reply shortly after asking if I really was interested…

Well, of course I was interested! The short of version: n a few hours I had the multitracks to the song 'Everything' in my possession, ready to be mixed…. and with a deadline to be met. Now anyone who has ever worked with me knows I tend to be an 'all in' sort of guy. So the next 36 hours were purely dedicated to the project. The performances were magnificent. ncluding some of the best played drums I’ve ever had the honor of mixing. Not sure who was on the drums, as the list of guest players on the album was quite extensive (including guys I’ve been listening to for years!), but my hat’s off to the drummer. You sir, know how to hit!

Needless to say, the project was delivered on time to the label. I’d like to thank the staff at Cleopatra Records for giving me this amazing opportunity, Moar Appelbaum for being a total pro, and of course, the band for writing such a great piece of music. I’m thrilled to have been part of it. I can’t wait until it’s been released!"
