Legendary Photographer Mark Weiss' Mother Passes

Famed photographer Mark Weiss - who is known for such iconic photos of METALLICA, VAN HALEN, KISS, QUEEN, AEROSMITH, OZZY OSBOURNE, TWISTER SISTER and BON JOVI - has lost his mother.

The obituary reads as follows:

Rita Tashman Weiss was born March 14, 1932 to Harry and Adele Tashman and was raised in Brooklyn, New York. She lived as a child with her mother, Adele Breslin Tashman, along with her aunt and uncle, Murial and Nathan Kissner.

Rita received her B.A. from Brooklyn College in 1950 where she was President of Upsilon Phi Sorority.

Rita met her husband, Meyer "Mike" Weiss in an elevator and they were married in 1955. They raised two loving sons, Jay and Mark. Throughout her career Rita was an accomplished businesswoman holding various positions in public relations at the Star Ledger in Newark and Weight Watchers in Livingston before she became Director of Publicity at South Amboy Memorial Hospital. Later in life when Rita became a licensed speech pathologist working with elementary children, she felt she finally found her calling. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Mike and her son, Jay.

Rita retired to the Ocean Club in Atlantic City, NJ where she lived happily with her beloved second husband, Mort Brett, whom she married in a Valentine's Day ceremony in February 2003. Rita's generosity and loving nature endeared her to all. She lived life to the fullest, always outgoing and on the move.

Rita is survived by her son Mark, with whom she lived for the past three years, and her grandchildren, Guy and Adele. Rita died peacefully at home on July 27, 2013 surrounded by the love of her beloved family and dedicated caregivers.

Services for Rita Weiss will be on Tuesday at 2:15, July 30th at Mount Sinai of Marlboro Cemetery, Marlboro, NJ. Afterwards the family will be sitting Shiva at Mark's home in Locust.
