American thrash metal band Megadeth, known for its seven Grammy nominations as well as controversial lyrics, is on its first visit to India. At the Rock In India Festival in Bangalore today, they will share the stage with American heavy metal act Machine Head and Indian bands like Millennium, Pentagram and Junkyard Groove. In an interaction with Pallavi Jassi, Megadeth talks about themselves and the concert.

Q: How does it feel to be in India?

A: "The band’s lineage is very strong. And we’re really excited to bring the band to its Indian fans. It’s a fantastic honour to have the opportunity to show where we are right now."

Q: There seems to be a consensus in the music world that metal is poised to make a big comeback. Do you think it ever really went away?

A: "I don’t think it really went away. It has always been there and will be there. But we must say that with the growing number of metal bands, more and more people are waking up to it."

Q: It has been 24 years since your first album came out. How has the journey been?

A: "The journey has been fantastic, there has never been a dull moment. But we would like to think there will be many more exciting moments in the future."

Q: Would you say there has been a return to the old-school speed-metal roots with the release of your album United Abominations last year?

A: "I think so. It was an amazing project, a true Megadeth album."

Q: What is the band’s take on Indian music?

A: "We’re not very familiar with Indian music, to be honest, though we would love to hear some local talent, as we are always looking to hear something new, regardless of where it is from."
