METALLICA's India Concert Will Be Dry Says Organizers
October 27, 2011, 13 years ago
According to The Times Of India, the organizers of the METALLICA concert in Gurgaon, Delhi, India on October 28th have not been able to secure a special permit from the Commissioner of Police to serve alcohol at the venue. The permit was sought over a month ago, but the NOC application is still at the Commissioner's office, pending approval. With just three days to go for the concert, it is unlikely that the special permit, even if approved, will get sanction from the Excise Commissioner's office.
However, if you are one of the privileged few, who have been especially invited by the organizers, you may be able to nurse a drink or two while watching James Hetfield belt out classics. "The liquor application is still in the Commissioner's office. We will not be giving permission to serve or sell alcohol at Palace Grounds on Sunday. However, permission has been given to serve liquor to VVIP guests, who will be seated in a small enclosure. Other Metallica fans will not be afforded the same privilege," says T Suneel Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Law and Order.
The top cop has also warned that those who try to sneak alcohol into the venue will be booked accordingly. "The police stationed at Palace Grounds will be checking all the concert-goers for alcohol or any other intoxicant. If anyone is found trying to bring in such items, we will arrest them," added Kumar.
He, however, admits that at such large gatherings, it is difficult to keep a check on everyone and find all offenders. "The press and the public should help us maintain law and order. If they find people disobeying the law or misbehaving at the concert, they should inform the police immediately so that action can be taken against them. We want the concert to be held without any untoward incident," says Kumar.
