BW&BK; has received the following press release:
Canada's Moshpit Tragedy Records, who abandoned releasing CDs in favour of their "sliding scale download" model, has announced it will begin accepting demos from aspiring punk and metal bands wanting to be considered for release through the label.
The high quality mp3 albums come complete with print-ready artwork and instructions how to make your own sleeve. Best of all, fans who visit www.moshpittragedy.com can pay as much or as little as they like - even free - an option Label Founder Rayny Forster claims is necessary to gain the fan's respect in times when illegal downloading is the only alternative fans have to paying high prices.
Forster says the idea is a means of taking advantage of falling CD sales and disillusionment with big-name record labels, and points out his new label model has already caught the attention and support of several key figures involved with the music industry. OZZY OSBOURNE bassist Rob 'Blasko' Nicholson (whose favorite bands on the label are THE SKUDS, HULLUUS and FILTHPACT) goes so far as to say "This model could very well be the future of all indie labels."
Their current twelve band roster consists not only of smaller hard-working bands such as DEVIL'S SON-IN-LAW, HANGOVER OVERDOSE, ARRESTUM, POWER IS POISON, BURNT CROSS and DESCENDED FROM RATS but has also begun to garner support for reissues from larger acts like AMEBIX, DISASSOCIATE and TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION.
In April, Forster filmed segments for the upcoming record industry documentary BEHIND THE SUIT AND TIE. The film will take a look inside the current problems with the record industry as well as its future and also features interviews with Relapse, Roadrunner, Metal Blade, Earache, Century Media, Ferret, Megaforce among others. The DVD is slated for a 2009 release through Energy Music Films.
