Moshpit Tragedy Records Announces Free Download Schedule For Out-Of-Print Releases
July 1, 2007, 17 years ago
Canada's Moshpit Tragedy Records has announced it will give away one of its out-of-print releases for free download from their web site each week for the next eight weeks.
Moshpit Tragedy co-founder Rayny Forster comments: "Our first eight releases are now out of print and as both a thank you and as a kind of final push to get these releases into the hands of underground music fans, we're offering a high-quality download of one release per week in its entirety — absolutely free of charge. We invite those who missed out on the physical product to check out the bands and enjoy these free mp3s."
Kicking off the promotion for the week of July 1-7 will be Texas-based death/extreme metallers No Souls Lost, with six brutally aggressive tracks that comprised their 2006 effort These Dead Years which was released as part of Moshpit Tragedy's DIY Series.
No Souls Lost is a death metal band formed in 2005 from the former members of such national bands as PROPHECY, VITALITY and other veterans of the local Dallas music scene. The band quickly made a name for itself by bringing old-school death metal back to the forefront of music with an updated twist. Their first EP, These Dead Years, was released by Moshpit Tragedy Records and was well-received. The band has now self-released its first full length album, Eulogy Of Genocide, in November 2006.

Moshpit Tragedy Records first began doing concert promotions in the mid-Nineties and over the next seven or eight years booked punk and metal bands such as DAYGLO ABORTIONS, FUCK THE FACTS, BLOODSHOT EYE, WOODS OF YPRES, BILE, NOCTURNE, BUNCHOFUCKINGOOFS, BLOODLET, AS FRIENDS RUST, DIRTY BIRD, OX BAKER, THE VIDEO DEAD and many more. The name came about after one of these shows when co-founder Rayny Forster (ex-HULLUUS, THE POSERS) was brought to the emergency room and a doctor dubbed him a "moshpit tragedy." In 2006, Forster and Katy Lesperance (ex-DUMPSTER DRUNX) began screenprinting skateboards and tshirts and the decade-old idea of becoming a label came into place. After releasing a few local projects the idea branched out and bands as far as Hungary and Saudi Arabia were released.
In March 2007, Moshpit Tragedy Records (who have signed an exclusive North American distribution deal with Cargo Music, Inc.) reissued the out-of-print Ale To England EP from U.K. crust act EXTINCTION OF MANKIND. The CD features new cover art and nine bonus tracks, captured live at an annual celebration of the life of Wayne Southworth, late singer of the influential UK crust band DOOM.
