New OVERDRIVE Tracks To Air Friday
August 24, 2010, 14 years ago
Swedish metal veterans OVERDRIVE have just finished recording 18 tracks for the forthcoming album with the working title Angelmaker.
"This time we recorded 18 tracks to have a lot to choose from. The problem is, they all became way better than even we expected, making it really hard to select which ones will go on the album," says guitarist Janne Stark.
The album was mixed by Pelle Saether (GRAND DESIGN, STEEL ATTACK, DEMONICAL) at Studio Underground. The band has just started shopping the recording for a new deal and interest has already been shown.
Some of the song-titles are: 'Angelmaker', 'Cold Blood Chaser', 'On With The Action', 'Under The Influence', 'Call The Priest', 'Thriller', 'To Grow', 'Run Out', 'The Wavebreaker', 'Signs All Over' and 'Mother Earth'.
The band also does a cover of 'I Know There's Something Going On', witten by Russ Ballard and recorded by former ABBA singer Frida back in 1982.
"We received a mail from Mr. Ballard after sending him our rendition, where he said he thought it was a great metalization and if I'd ever meet he'd buy me a curry, which I take as a really good sign coming from an Englishman," Stark says.
As a special taster the band will present two new tracks from the forthcoming album on internet radio. Tune on to Mad Ian's Hard Rock Asylum on Friday, August 27 (Hardrockradiolive.com), three hours from 12 noon UK time (7am EST, 6am CST and 4am PST). The show will feature an interview with Stark and two new unreleased tracks will be played.
Footnote: An "angelmaker" was a woman who, in the 1800's/early 1900's "took care" of children born out of wedlock for money. She adopted the children, and then by starving, poisoning and manhandling the poor children, she "turned them into angels", hence angelmaker. The last angelmaker in Sweden was sentenced as late as in the 1930's.
