PINK FLOYD’s David Gilmour, Nick Mason Navigate The Endless River With InThe Studio’s Redbeard

InTheStudio.net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio program InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands, wades into the deep end with David Gilmour and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd to sail through their surprising new album, The Endless River.

The initial notice was innocuous enough, a single tweet among millions sent that day last Summer, washed up on the shore like some electronic message in a bottle: Pink Floyd, one of the world’s most popular rock bands ever, would be delivering their first album in 20 years containing studio recordings by guitarist/singer David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, but also the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Rick Wright, who died in 2008.  For hardcore fans this was the music that had been rumored to exist, but never officially released until now. The questions rushed like river rapids: after telling InTheStudio host Redbeard during two previous interviews that he was “out of Pink Floyd, and I will stay out”, what had changed David Gilmour’s mind?

In an in-depth interview Gilmour and Mason reveal the inspiration, motivation, and lengthy timeline for The Endless River ; how it came to be, why it was shelved initially and what inspired the two to finish what they started so many years ago with fellow bandmate the late Richard Wright.

David Gilmour: “We could not have made this record 20 years ago. It would have been impossible. I’m very happy to be releasing this material now. It would have seemed very incomplete to me if we didn’t put something out.”

Nick Mason: “I think on this record, there’s an element of homage and a recognition of Rick. It’s perhaps making up for lack of recognition prior to this. He’s always perhaps been the unsung hero.”
