Monica Diaz at WFAA.com has filed the following report on OZZFest 2008, which took place in Frisco, TX on August 9th.

Pizza Hut Park in Frisco was celebrating the city's new extended noise curfew with OzzFest on Saturday, and the venue hopes the change will attract more concerts and special events.

But not everyone in this Dallas suburb is on board with extra hours of late night noise.

Pizza Hut Park was still rocking at 10 p.m. Saturday. The all-day OzzFest featuring Ozzy Ozbourne, Metallica and eight other bands kicked off the stadium's extended hours, approved by the city council earlier this week.

For concert-goers, the curfew extension is music to their ears.

"You get to have more fun," said Danielle Davis on her way to the festival. "You pay for this ticket, and you might as well spend the whole day."

Pizza Hut Park operators say the previous 10 p.m. cutoff time choked their competitive edge. They believe the new stop times — 11 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday — will boost business.

"It's going to help," said venue spokesman Michael Hitchcock. "We are now competitive with other venues similar to ours in the Metroplex, to be able to go out and attract events like this."

But as Cris Rothell watered the lawn in front of his new home in Frisco, he wasn't able to hear the birds chirping or the wind blowing because of Saturday's three-stage cacophony from Pizza Hut Park.

Rothell lives less than 2,000 feet from the venue, and said he can't stand the noise during some events.

"On the weekends, when they do have concerts and whatnot, it is kind of loud," he said.

Rothell said he can live with the later curfew, but he'd like city leaders to take a listen; their offices are right across the street from the Pizza Hut Park.

"They should come to work on Saturday or Sunday when they are having the concerts and see if they like it," Rothell said.

Pizza Hut Park, the home of the FC Dallas Major League Soccer team, hopes to bring in at least 10 concerts and festivals each year, and possibly even more with the new curfew.

There are no additional concerts on the calendar for the rest of this year. The next scheduled event at Pizza Hut Park is a soccer game on August 30.
