Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven, vocalist/guitarist from Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON, has partnered with fifth-generation wine-maker Luca Roagna from Piedmont, Italy, to launch Satyr's own brand of wine.

Wongraven focused himself gradually on wines from Piedmonte, a province which stretches itself from the Mediterranean, over the upper reaches of Posletten, all the way to the Alps on the Swiss border.

The two wines available from the Wongraven vintage include:

- Langhe Rosso Alleanza Nero di Wongraven 2009
- Barolo Unione Nero di Wongraven 2006

Wongraven and Roagna first met in the spring of 2003 when Satyricon was on tour in Italy and spent several months earlier this year creating two wines combining of Roagna's skilled vineyard work and Satyr's vision of traditional Piedmontese wines.

"We attained good chemistry from day one," Satyr tells Gaia Online . "And if Luca Roagna wasn't a black metal fan in the beginning, he is one in any case now."

Wongraven and Roagna worked together on composing a red wine of grapes from three different parcels.

Says Satyr, "it has to do with different sun and shadow relationships, different ages of the wine stock and different soils. One must then also expect that the taste will be different from one year to another, but it will in any case make for a lovely Piedmonte quality."

Do you get a share of the sales since your name is on the bottle?

Satyr: "Yeah, I do. Luca Roagna and me are agreed about this, and I have also invested money in it."

Satyr reveals that Luca Roagna doesn't use chemicals or artifical additives in his earth.

"The wine isn't marketed as organic, but in reality it is."
