SAXON's Sweden Rock Performance To Air On Swedish Radio
February 22, 2012, 12 years ago
NWOBHM legends SAXON performed the Denim And Leather album at the 2011 Sweden Rock festival, which was held June 8th - 11th, 2011 in Sölvesborg, and now you can enjoy it too. Sveriges Radio P4 will be broadcasting the show on Saturday, March 3rd between 8 - 9 PM, after which it can be heard online for 30 days at this location.
Saxon have begun writing sessions for the follow-up to last year's Call To Arms that saw top 20 chart success in Germany and Sweden.
Said drummer Nigel Glockler in a recent Facebook update: "Expecting Quinny (Paul Quinn; guitar) down this week, so he, Doug (Scarratt; guitar) and myself will be in the home studio working on songs for the next album before the whole band meet up again in March. The plan (at the moment) is to have the album written by May, then studio between festivals this summer. We are hoping for a January 2013 release, but as you know, things are always subject to change."
Saxon singer Biff Byford recently revealed to BraveWords.com recently that an orchestral album and concert is also in the works. "We have a guy who does the orchestration for us and scores everything," Byford reveals. "We're in the process of having some of our more anthemic songs orchestrated. There will be a concert and an album soon. We've done 'Crusader' and things like that and when it came back it sounded so fantastic. When heavy metal goes symphonic it can be disastrous. I think you need to add something to the song and not totally blitz it into CHOPIN or something. That's a mistake too many bands make - too much orchestra. But this one is sounding great. It's just a matter of adding an orchestra to a song to make it feel different."
Byford says to expect the project sometime this year or in early 2013.
Saxon's Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken CD/DVD is due later this year - complete details at BraveWords.com.
