THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN - New 'Prancer' Song Reviewed
March 14, 2013, 11 years ago
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN have released their new single, for the track 'Prancer', featured on the upcoming album, One Of Us Is The Killer, due for release on May 14th in North America through the band's own Party Smasher Inc. in partnership with Sumerian Records. It will see worldwide release through Party Smasher Inc./BMG, as well as Grind House (Japan) and Remote Control (Australia).
BraveWords scribe and self-proclaimed DEP fanatic David Perri has reviewed the song below:
"'Prancer' is everything DEP is known for and should be known for, the song a distilled embodiment of Dillinger's frantic and frenetic delivery that is all the more authentic because this explosive release of angst, anxiety and anomie is no show: this is way-outside-the-fucking-box as existential identity and if you get it, you're in for life. 'Prancer' is a brave and bloodied collision course of 'Sugar Coated Sour' and 'Setting Fire To Sleeping Giants', Dillinger Escape Plan clawing deep into the abysses of its pitch-black psyche to propose art that is profound, subversive and so, so necessary... 'Prancer', through all of its abrasion and its death by a thousand cuts, earns Dillinger the title of world's most dangerous band, yet again."'Prancer' is streaming below:
The new Dillinger Escape Plan album was recorded in Southern California with longtime producer Steve Evetts (GLASSJAW, THE CURE, SUICIDE SILENCE), with additional production at guitarist/co-founder Ben Weinman's studio. Mastering was handled by Tom Baker (DEFTONES, NINE INCH NAILS, BEASTIE BOYS).
Dillinger's mind-bending meld of metal, rock, experimental ambience and melody first reared its head with a 6-track EP on hardcore indie Now Or Never Records, quickly followed by Under the Running Board on Relapse. The band earned a reputation as a fearless act on the live stage, committing their minds, bodies and spirits to the exhibition and visceral release of performance and often brutalizing stages, gear and themselves along the way. Calculating Infinity became the gold standard for the emerging "math-core"/"math-metal" movement, earning a place in author Martin Popoff's Top 500 Heavy Metal Albums of All Time.
One Of Us Is The Killer finds the band in top form, emphasizing Dillinger Escape Plan's fierce independence, staunch individualism and loyalty to their unique vision which has long followed them on-stage and off.
The band recently announced the first leg (see dates below) of a worldwide tour in support of their new album. The Dillinger Escape Plan will kick things off at New England Metal Fest and then begin a US headlining tour of clubs and theaters with support from THE FACELESS and ROYAL THUNDER, stopping to make an appearance at the Golden Gods Awards.
"It's been a while since we've been out doing what we do best," said guitarist Ben Weinman. "We're excited to present this album to the world."Band friend and visual collaborator James Sharrock put together a short teaser from the hours of road footage he's captured with the band. The video can be viewed below:
"It's great to see this never before seen video, where Greg talks about what drives and motivates us to perform," Weinman said. "It's great to reflect on our previous years on the road as we gear up for all new adventures at home and abroad."The Dillinger Escape Plan is also part of the lineup for METALLICA's Orion Fest, which will be held in Detroit, MI on June 8th and 9th. Dillinger will join Metallica, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, RISE AGAINST, DEFTONES, TOMAHAWK, DEATH GRIPS and many more.
