GLENN HUGHES Leaves A PURPLE Burn In New Jersey!
August 21, 2023, a year ago
Glenn Hughes kicked off his U.S. tour on August 16 at the Landis Theater in Vineland, New Jersey, celebrating 50 years of the Deep Purple album Burn. This first date did not include Yngwie Malmsteen as he joined the tour on the 18th in New York which runs through September 23 in Clearwater Florida.
Hughes the consummate rock star, still has the hair and fashion, and voice (boy does he still have that voice), does a nine-song set focusing on his time in Purple, with "Highway Star" the exception. I know, nine songs may seem kind of short, but he does extended versions, like the classic "Mistreated" which he starts off talking about writing the song with Richie Blackmore in a castle.
He does a little story telling before the songs, expresses his love for the crowd, also gives a shout out to guitarist Tommy Bolin (who played on the album Come Taste The Band) on "Getting Tighter", and David Coverdale with "You Keep On Movin". Hughes easily in the top five, probably three, who still has that voice, with vibrato, can project, and hits all the highs and screams.
Go catch the Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer in the flesh.
