ADLER'S APPETITE / ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler is featured in a new interview with Andrew Lau Crawdaddy.com. An excerpt is available below.

Q: Does it makes things any easier for you knowing the band (Guns N' Roses) started to go downhill after you left?

Adler: "No, it didn’t, because I wanted them to succeed. Because Axl did this record, Chinese Democracy, he didn’t call it what he should’ve called it which was “W-A-R.”—W. Axl Rose, not Guns N’ Roses. It would’ve’ been much better for him. Look at Sting, when he does his solo stuff, he doesn’t call it the Police. Phil Collins doesn’t call it Genesis. That’s how you’re supposed to do it. He’s being a total baby, fuckin’ grow up already. For me personally, I want to finish what I started with those assholes. If it wasn’t for all these fans who still love us 20 years later, we wouldn’t have lived the way we lived, and it’s not fair for Axl to keep it from them. All they want is to see the five of us assholes play. Together. I just got off 56 shows in 62 days and had the best time ever traveling around America meeting wonderful people, and all they keep saying is: 'Appetite For Destruction is the soundtrack to my life, you guys gotta do a reunion.' No kidding, if it was up to me it would happen. I know we owe it to the fans."

Q: Axl hasn’t changed his ways—

Adler: "And it’s only fuckin’ rock ‘n roll, dude, get over it. Hey, Grandpa said, 'Time heals all wounds.' My wounds are healed—how long does it take to scar up and get over it already? My god. It’s not fair to me, it’s not fair to my fans, it’s not fair to Axl himself, it’s not fair to Slash. I’ve played some pretty cool places, but I’ve also played a bunch of little bars, which were really fun because we were giving them an arena show in a bar. It was really exciting, but I saw posters saying Slash was coming to play there, and I’m all, 'What the fuck is Slash playing here for?' He’s Slash. Me, I have to pay my dues again, so I don’t mind and I love doing it. Slash is one of the greatest guitar players in the world. I saw a Twitter a few weeks ago saying he played somewhere in Minneapolis, and he said the stage was so small he couldn’t move. That’s not for Slash. He’s a guitar hero, come on! Axl’s been doing it half-assed; people are basically buying tickets to go see what the fuck Axl’s gonna do next and throw bottles at him and see how nuts they can make him. That’s not what rock ‘n roll is about; it’s about the music, it’s about togetherness."

Adler's new book, My Appetite For Destruction, chronicles the life of Adler from his abusive childhood through his issues with drugs and alcohol at a very young age. The book reads much like a diary and is a view into the mind of a man who has come to grips with many dark problems in his life.

“It’s not a pretty book,” said Adler. “But it made me feel so much better to know that I was not the only person in the world with a drug problem or who had been sexually abused. I was relieved to get it out of system and would encourage anyone else battling with similar issues to talk to someone because it will help.”
