On March 14th, shock rock legend ALICE COOPER was inducted into Cleveland's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The induction is for his work with the original ALICE COOPER GROUP rather than Alice Cooper the solo artist. Honoured alongside singer Alice Cooper himself were drummer Neal Smith, bass player Dennis Dunaway, keyboardist Michael Bruce and the late Glen Buxton, who died of complications from pneumonia in October 1997.
"I was really happy that it was the entire first band - the original band," said Cooper. "Because they did all the cutting-edge work."Photos from the induction, posted via Cooper's official Twitter page, are available below. Watch for video footage from the night, due to surface over the next couple days.
Following is an excerpt from a report by 680News.com:
Alice Cooper is the stage name for singer Vincent Furnier and his band, known for 1970s era hard rock songs 'Eighteen', 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' and 'School's Out'. Their concerts were steeped in horror movie theatrics, and singer Rob Zombie, in his induction speech, said they had invented the rock show.
Cooper, the singer, wrapped a huge snake around his neck for his induction and performed a trio of the band's hits in a shirt spattered with fake blood. A chorus of schoolchildren in gruesome black makeup joined them for 'School's Out'.
"We've always been a hard-rock band," Cooper said. "We just wanted to decorate it a little differently."Click here for the complete report.
A follow-up performance to the induction set will occur in Los Angeles on April 20th at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, where Alice will be presented with The Golden God Award. The award is given to those who fully embody the spirit of hard rock and heavy metal.
"We haven't played LA for 37 years, and the last time was at the Whisky with Led Zeppelin," recalls Cooper. The reunion with his classic band is something that Cooper has been looking forward to for a long time.
"The funny thing was, the original band never ever broke up with any bad blood," the rocker said. "You know in 1974 when we broke up, it was just one of those things where we decided to go different ways and make different albums. I did Welcome To My Nightmare, and after that a whole bunch of albums, but ... we were always in touch with each other. Glen passed away, but we've got Steve Hunter playing for Glen, and Steve is one of the giant guitar players of all time."
