ANNIHILATOR's Jeff Waters - How I Nearly Got The Gigs In METALLICA And MEGADETH!
September 8, 2013, 11 years ago
Canuck guitar god and ANNIHILATOR mainman Jeff Waters has been reminiscing about his past and how he nearly got the gigs in both METALLICA and MEGADETH!
Waters explains on Facebook below:
"Very cool Metallica-Waters related story. Jason Newsted (NEWSTED, VOIVOD, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM) surprised me with a story about when James Hetfield was injured/burned at the Montreal Metallica/GNR show years ago... he said I was to get the mgmt call to fill in for James on guitar for the rest of the tour but that they decided on John Marshall (ex-METAL CHURCH/worked as Metallica's tech), as they knew him! THAT was pretty cool, eh?!"Waters on whether or not he was asked to join Megadeth: "Nope... to audition and then later to discuss joining... the best guys for the job ended up getting the gigs! Friedman and Broderick are smokin' hot shredders! Dave and I should def. write a song together, though! Would be metal! Meaning I was asked to audition in 1989 and the mighty Marty got in (I was too busy with Alice In Hell out and tied down to a contract, although intensely honored by the offer) and when Dave and I discussed possibilities (pre-Glenn Drover), Dave opted for the Drover brothers, instead of grabbing a willing Waters. I might have done it the latter time, as it was pitched to me as I would have been involved in writing and I think that combination would have been sick! Dave M, David E, Chris and and Shawn are super cool people and are still ripping necks with their metal... but Dave made the right choices for him and I got to make four pretty good Annihilator records after that discussion... Feast is a beast!"
