Canadian metal legends ANVIL opened their 2010 North American tour in Cleveland, Ohio last night (January, 7th) at House Of Blues. The band performed an 85-minute set to a very large crowd despite blizzard conditions. Anvil have played Cleveland more times in their career than any other U.S. city. Cleveland metal bands DESTRUCTOR and ETERNAL LEGACY opened. Some markets on the tour will still have the Anvil! The Story Of Anvil movie shown before their performance. Others will have local bands perform instead of the movie. The tour runs through mid-February.
Steve "Lips" Kudlow made good on his stage promise to meet with all the fans after the show. "You all know everything about me", said Lips. "Now it's time for me to get to know each and every one of you better". He stayed in the venue well over an hour after the band's performance meeting with fans until the very last fan had left. Lips plans on doing this for the rest of the tour. He said he wants to break down the walls between bands and fans and make everyone feel part of the Anvil family.
"It was great to see so many fans come out in the very poor weather conditions", says WJCU Metal On Metal host Bill Peters. "The local news reports were telling everyone to stay home and keep off the roads. The energy level was there from start to finish. The crowd noise was deafening at times. Anvil were quite taken back by the response, which was intense even on Cleveland Anvil show standards. What was most encouraging was to see so many young fans in attendance. The band is winning over a whole new generation of fans with the success of the movie. Cleveland has supported this band for a very, very long time. We're all enjoying the good things that are happening to them now as much as they are. What could have been a disaster with the weather, in a big downtown venue, turned out to be an overwhelming success. You could not have asked for a better kickoff to their tour. This short movie has a very happy ending!"The band's setlist was as follows:
'March Of The Crabs'
'666'
'School Love'
'Winged Assassins'
'This Is Thirteen'
'Mothra'
'Flying Blind'
'Thumb Hang'
'White Rhino'
'Mad Dog'
'Forged In Fire'
'Metal On Metal'
Encore:
'Jackhammer'
