BW&BK; recently caught up with REDEMPTION guitarist/founder Nick van Dyk to discuss the band's new album, The Origins Of Ruin, which BW&BK; scribe Carl Begai has referred to as "the ultimate prog metal air guitar record." The following is a brief excerpt from the interview:

“One of the things that’s part of Redemption’s sound is combining really heavy music with melody," say van Dyk, "and I think my sense of melody has gotten stronger with time, so now there’s this need to transpose the melody with the heavy aspect of our sound, which makes the music even heavier. I don’t want to fall in to the prog metal cliché of starting with 40 seconds of rain sounds (laughs). You’ll notice on both this record and the last one (The Fullness Of Time), the first song ('The Suffocating Silence') is boom!, right in there. I knew I wanted heavy stuff. The main riff on the first track of our new album reminds me of something old Megadeth would do; they were one of my favourite bands back in the day.”

With regards to the new and improved Megadeth, who are gearing up for the release of their new album, United Abominations, van Dyk offers the following.

“I think The System Has Failed is one of the best comeback albums in recent memory. I can’t wait for the new one. I’ve heard a bit of that ‘Sleepwalker’ track and I thought it was great.”
