CAVE IN's Jupiter Album To Receive 25th Anniversary Reissue In January; Full Audio Streaming Now

Relapse Records proudly announces the 25th anniversary reissue of Cave In’s monumental album Jupiter, due for release on January 10.

Jupiter marks a significant shift in Cave In’s musical direction that sees the band embark on a post-hardcore space odyssey. Perhaps the finest record of Cave In’s storied career, Jupiter sounds as fresh and as vital as ever.

Jupiter will be available as a standalone LP, as well as a deluxe 2xCD and 3xLP box set, all remastered by James Plotkin. The 2xCD includes the full album alongside a special live set recorded for broadcast on Boston’s legendary rock radio station WBCN in October of 2000. The deluxe 3xLP boxset, available exclusively via Relapse.com, includes Jupiter demos and the WBCN radio session.

Cave In Frontman Stephen Brodsky comments on the Jupiter reissue & performing the album at Roadburn:

“Sometime in the late 90’s, I had a seed of an idea: to make a record called Jupiter – the largest planet in our solar system, but also a failed star. The combination of those things was ripe with inspiration. Plus the combination of individuals in our band had crystallized to form a new pathway forward, and down that path we went - loud and proud! Fast forward 25 years and Relapse has truly outdone themselves with an incredible reissue that fully encapsulates our cosmic youth, proving yet again their unparalleled mastery in the game of heavy music preservation. Also exciting news: Roadburn 2025 will be the first time we’ve ever played this collection of sonic spacedust in full, and we’re beyond grateful for the opportunity.”

More Jupiter info, written by Becky Laverty:

Any fan of Cave In has likely entered into a debate at one time or another about which of their albums is The Best. There’s merit in every answer; whether you lean more towards their hardcore beginnings, or find yourself as a sucker for their stadium-worthy big rock numbers, there’s a Cave In record for every mood, every moment. However, it is Jupiter that tends to come out on top - a turn of the century post-hardcore space odyssey. In 2025, Jupiter will reach its 25th anniversary - and Cave In will return to Roadburn to perform the album in full for the very first time. A show that many have longed to witness, we’re thrilled to host Cave In for this very special performance.

With thirty years under their belts, Cave In have remained true to their roots in the Merrimack Valley hardcore punk scene, forever with its foundations in friendship. The bonds that originally united Stephen Brodsky on lead guitar and vocals, Adam McGrath on rhythm guitar (and later vocals), Caleb Scofield on bass and vocals, and John-Robert Conners on drums are still tangible in their present-day work. After their debut album, Until Your Heart Stops, was released worldwide, their fan base grew globally. When they unveiled Jupiter in 2000, the album catapulted them onto bigger stages still, gaining broad critical acclaim and an army of devoted fans.

A change in direction that saw the four-piece embracing more psychedelic sounds within their sonic palette marked a new era for the band. Ultimately Jupiter has not only stood the test of time, it sounds as fresh today as it ever did. Saturated with melody and fizzing with space-rock, Jupiter may have raised the hackles of the occasional reviewer, but Pitchfork at least did us the favour of pointing out that Cave In announced the arrival of Jupiter with the following: "The future of music is on Jupiter. Perception will be altered. Preconceptions will be shattered. Jupiter has landed." 25 years later, this album continues to do what it did back then, hence this invitation to join us and celebrate the legacy of this now iconic record.

In the years since Jupiter, Cave In has weathered many ups and downs, not least the death of Caleb Scofield in 2018. Those foundations built way back in 1995 have held the band together, and thankfully they’ve come out the other side, all the while continuing to evolve and shatter preconceptions. Having been joined by Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders, Old Man Gloom) on bass and vocals, Cave In will revisit the past and bring it screaming into 2025.
