CHEVY METAL Bandmate MICK MURPHY Pays Tribute To TAYLOR HAWKINS - "I'll Cherish The Experiences, The Memories And The Music"
March 27, 2022, 2 years ago
When Dave Grohl started playing with Queens Of The Stone Age in 2013, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins kept busy by teaming up with longtime friends Wiley Hodgden (bass) and Mick Murphy (guitar) for the '70s dirt rock cover band Chevy Metal. The band became a live act and evolved into The Birds Of Satan.
Murphy shared the following tribute to Hawkins following news of his bandmate's death on March 25th.
Murphy: "I’m in shock. This just does not compute. Gut punched and heartbroken. He was SO alive all the time. On 11. I considered him a pal and a brother in rock. He was hilarious. Lots of laughs. Even though he was a huge rockstar, he treated me like an equal on stage and in the studio. Gave me some incredible opportunities and they were always unique and fun as hell. He was a fuckin blast to jam with. That giant smile. Very high spirited, adventurous and truly loved music. Especially music that pushed boundaries. He could play the absolute fuck outta the drums. Lived and breathed it. I’ll cherish the experiences, the memories and the music. Taken WAY too soon. It’s just not right. I’ll miss you, man. Rock in peace, Taylor."
