According to Guardian.co.uk, the new owner of Classic Rock and Metal Hammer magazines will launch a national digital station in May.

Team Rock takes its name from the new venture headed by former GMG Radio chief executive John Myers, which announced the £10.2m purchase of the two Future titles on Tuesday.

The station, which will broadcast on the national digital audio broadcasting (DAB) platform, Digital One, will not carry any spot advertising, making its money from promotions and sponsorship.

The Team Rock chief executive, Billy Anderson, said the new venture was a "much wider business" in which radio would play "an important role".

"All rock stations in the UK seem to play the same rock songs. That's fine but we are not a classic rock station. Instead, we celebrate the whole spectrum of rock music. Too many great bands go unplanned."
"This station will be specifically targeted at a community we know is both passionate and valuable. We will name the radio team in due course."
