DARK TRANQUILLITY Vocalist Mikael Stanne - "We Want To Create The Perfect Album"
April 15, 2007, 17 years ago
DARK TRANQUILLITY vocalist Mikael Stanne spoke to BW&BK; Magazine recently for an upcoming feature. Here are a few excerpts from the chat:
“We’ve grown as songwriters and performers,” says Stanne, when questioned about the band’s excellent output over the last several years. “We’ve learned. We’ve done a lot of things on our records: we were mellow on Projector, a bit electronic on Haven and fast on The Gallery. We’re happy we’ve done all that, and we’ve used these experiences to give the songs on the new record their maximum potential. We’re trying to write the strongest songs possible.”Writing strong song isn’t just something Dark Tranquillity strives to do every now and then. Composing top-tier material has become one of the group’s primary goals as musicians.
“We want to create the perfect album,” Stanne laughs. “We’re feeling better than ever, and we want to write even better songs. We want to keep going on the road and playing them for people, and we want to keep writing songs we love. It gets tougher as you go along to keep writing leads, but we never feel like we’ve written every lead possible. There’s always leads left to write (laughs).”“Fiction is a more open record,” he continues. “Each song has its own identity and stands out. We just did whatever came naturally, and if that meant more clean vocals and keys, well we did it. But we still wanted to do fast songs, so we wrote those too. It was never like, ‘We need a Projector part here or a Haven part there.’”
