DEATH ANGEL Guitarist Rob Cavestany - "There's Been Plenty Of Recklessness Along The Way"
December 22, 2013, 10 years ago
DEATH ANGEL's Rob Cavestany (guitars) and Will Carroll (drums) are featured in a new interview with UK-based Mass Movement. An excerpt is available below:
High points of being involved with the band?
Cavestany: "Playing music a lot! That’s the main thing, number one. Being with your bros, again, a lot more than normal at this age. Travelling around the world, interacting with fans, intense energy and exploding craziness. Somehow it’s never ending… the seemingly endless time (laughs)."
Low points?
Cavestany: "Well, definitely being away from home too long. Having no privacy. The other 22 hours of the day when we are not on stage thrashing. That does really depend on how much you tour actually. For us, Death Angel, we fuckin’ tour like crazy, so y’know it’s exaggerated. With moderate touring it’s not that bad, you can keep it the same as having a blast at summer camp with your bros, but for us it’s like our total normal life; we are on the road more than our normal life! So in that case as you can see, privacy is very, very fuckin’ rare… and I like my privacy, I can be a kinda… loner~ish… person. Every minute I am doing this, it’s taking me away from a very important thing which I should be doing, raising my kid. That actually is the time when it hurts, when you have spare time in the day, and you know you should be there for them, but you can’t, because your on the other side of the earth. The waiting and killing the dead time; it’s a killer when you could really be doing something better."
Is there a place for recklessness in rock n roll?
Cavestany: "Is there a place? That’s what it is; rock ‘n’ roll is recklessness. It’s the expression in the music, the feeling, the drinking, the partying, and of course getting reckless! Not in a bad way I mean… in a positive way, letting out your frustration in a kinda aggressive manner. That is rock ‘n’ roll. I’m the same man that made The Ultra Violence, and with The Dream Calls For Blood I have seen progression, but not change, plenty of recklessness along the way though, bro (laughs)."
