Joanna Fantozzi from TheCelebrityCafe.com spoke with drum legend brothers Carmine Appice (OZZY OSBOURNE, ROD STEWART, VANILLA FUDGE, JEFF BECK, GUITAR ZEUS, KING KOBRA) and Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN AND HELL, WWIII, AXIS, RICK DERRINGER, JOHN LENNON) recently about a number of topics including their all-new competition-style rock show called Drum Wars. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

TheCelebrityCafe.com: Tell me a little bit about Drum Wars - what kind of show is this going to be?

Vinny: "We’ve been wanting to do this for a long time. We’ve never played together really, it’s a perfect time for us to get together. We tried to do a show that included all of our music-then we wrote three or four drum pieces….lots of drums, lots of music. It’s a really fun show."

Carmine: "It’s a real high-energy experience. Drums are the most physical instrument; it’s very entertaining to watch. With just the two of us…we create a lot of energy on stage, throwing sticks back and forth, etc. When we play the songs we’re known for, the audience can really relate to it, and it’s really great."

TheCelebrityCafe.com: Who has been your favorite musician to work with during your career and why?

Vinny: "I actually worked with John Lennon when I was 16 so that’s an easy pick. We were in three videos with him and that was amazing. Other than that, Black Sabbath. Playing with them was an amazing experience - very cool. Also playing arenas was pretty different."

Carmine: "That’s hard because that’s like saying, 'what’s your favorite ice cream flavour?' So definitely, all of them, I would say. You can learn something from everyone."

TheCelebrityCafe.com: For you, what has been the most exciting/iconic moment of your music career?

Vinny: "Probably when we played Madison Square Garden with Rick Derringer – opening for AEROSMITH with my first pro band, that was really crazy.

Carmine: That’s a hard one - but I’d have to say being on the Ed Sullivan Show and also playing at festivals. I’ve had so many great experiences though. My whole life, I’ve been a rock star - it’s been pretty amazing."
