GLENN DANZIG - "JERRY (CANTRELL) And I Have Talked About Doing A Blues Record"
October 24, 2010, 14 years ago
DANZIG mainman Glenn Danzig spoke with Jay Nanda from The Silver Tongue recently about a number of topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
The Silver Tongue: I’ve heard that you would like to make a record with Jerry Cantrell of ALICE IN CHAINS and HANK III. Why them, and have you made any progress on this yet?
Danzig: "Actually, Jerry and I have talked about doing a blues record, maybe something acoustic. But with our schedules, it’s probably never going to happen. We’ve worked together before (on Danzig’s 1996 Blackacidevil). As far as the Hank thing, we did a show together, and he had sent me a song that he had wanted me to sing on. People heard about it."
The Silver Tongue: You went years without wanting to discuss THE MISFITS days...
Danzig: "That’s not accurate."
The Silver Tongue: OK, can you clarify for me?
Danzig: "Sure. People had wanted Danzig to come out and tour, and I’d be doing interviews, and people would ask me about the Misfits. But that wasn’t the time to talk about them. I was strictly concentrating on Danzig."
The Silver Tongue: But the lyrics book requested by fans necessitated you revisiting that era for a bit. So did you enjoy that trip down Memory Lane, so to speak?
Danzig: "My point was that people had ignored punk for so long that it wasn’t important anymore. The time to talk about it was when it was relevant and important. Like those assholes Rolling Stone (Magazine) and other people, they should’ve talked about it then. When I’m doing Danzig material, that’s what I concentrate on. But I never forget that period of time."
