ICED EARTH's JON SCHAFFER Sued By Washington D.C. Attorney General Over U.S. Capitol Events

The bell continues to toll for Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer and his role in the U.S. Capitol events from January 6. A lawsuit was filed against Schaffer and 30 other people by Washington D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine over millions spent by the city to defend the Capitol. The lawsuit is called “a coordinated act of domestic terrorism” carried out by the groups.

In the complaint, which can be read here, it says Schaffer is "a founding, lifetime member of the Oath Keepers.”

Other noteworthy information reads: "Schaffer was criminally charged and indicted for his role in perpetrating the January 6th Attack. In connection with a promise to cooperate with investigators and potentially testify in criminal cases related to the conspiracy to commit the January 6th Attack, Schaffer pleaded guilty to the entire Statement of Offense in the criminal action brought against him, which included two felony offenses: (1) trespass of the Capitol while armed with a deadly or dangerous weapon and (2) obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress. The Criminal Complaint filed against Schaffer—as well as Schaffer's Plea Agreement and the accompanying Statement of Offense describing his conduct—are publicly available documents that are hereby incorporated into the Complaint by reference."

In April, Schaffer admitted to breaching the US Capitol on January 6, wearing a tactical vest and armed with bear repellent and pleaded guilty to obstruction of an official proceeding and entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon.

“He has remained compliant with pre-trial release conditions,” the status update states. “He has remained cooperative with law enforcement since his release. Multiple defendants charged in the case in which the defendant is cooperating have been presented before the court; several are in the process of exploring case resolutions and a trial date has yet to be set.”

Back in February, Iced Earth frontman Stu Block, bassist Luke Appleton and guitarist Jake Dreyer announced in separate statements they had officially left the band. In addition, Blind Guardian frontman Hansi Kürsch announced he had dissolved his Demons & Wizards partnership with Schaffer.
