Australian webzine PyroMusic.net recently caught up with INTO ETERNITY guitarist Tim Roth to discuss the band's latest album, The Scattering Of Ashes, and their Gigantour experience. The following is a brief excerpt:

Spiritech: Into Eternity have a sound that's not exactly easy to pin down. Do you take some pride in carving out a unique and fresh sound when there are so many bands content to just accept mediocrity and blend in with everyone else in the metal scene?

Tim Roth: "Thanks for the nice words! I think it's really tough to be original in metal these days because most things have already been done in the scene. We are just playing music that we like to hear. I always wondered why bands couldn't mix different elements in their music, it makes the music itself sound more fresh and exciting to my ears. I don't think many bands sound like Into Eternity, so in that I feel quite proud. It's important for us to stand apart from the generic metal sound."

Spiritech: I would agree with that. Now, the album seems to be as heavy and diverse as past efforts, with as good it not better musicianship, but with even catchier melodic elements than ever before. Was this your overall intention with The Scattering Of Ashes?

Tim Roth: "I wanted this new album to have a catchy chorus in every song. Having a good hook is really important to our music because most of the songs are so technically-based anyway. It was an intentional move on our part, and I'm a sucker for a good chorus anyway! The musicianship is also a step up for us. The songs are much tougher to play then any of our previous albums. I like the faster tempos on this new CD as well, plus the songs have a really good energy to them."
