JOE SATRIANI - "I Always Think The Next Piece Of Music Is Going To Be The Most Important One" (Video)
January 24, 2024, 11 months ago
Guitar legend Joe Satriani is featured ina new interview with Ultimate Guitar. Following is an excerpt from the Q&A.
UG: What song are you most proud of creating?
Satriani: "I always think the next piece of music is going to be the most important one. I like all of them. I feel sorry for all of them that I couldn't make them better, couldn't express the reasons of why I wrote them better. That's a difficult one to answer."
UG: What song were you hesitant to release?
Satriani: "If you were a manager or an A&R person, you'd say, 'Hey, what's that song doing on the album? That's something you shouldn't enjoy on your own.' Once you release it, you share it. You could argue that you don't own it anymore, emotionally or artistically. A song like 'Cryin'' was written about grieving for my father's death. But it turned out that people thought it was a romantic song, and they used it that way. Now, I can't stop people from doing that. I wouldn't want to."

Joe Satriani and Steve Vai's friendship with each other (and the guitar) started as kids in New York. It’s still going strong five decades later, and for the first time they are joining up for the Satch/Vai tour this spring. Check out their conversation below about when they first met as kids.
For the first time ever, after more than 50 years of friendship, it's the Satch-Vai 2024 Tour! Believe it not, this is the first time Joe and Steve will tour as a duo-bill, and it comes along with plans to release a new musical collaboration.
“The Satch/Vai Tour is happening! I’m so looking forward to sharing the stage with Steve again. Every time we play together it takes me back to when we were teenagers, eating and breathing music every second of the day, pushing, challenging and helping each other to be the best we could be. I guess we’ve never stopped!” - Joe Satriani
“Touring with Joe is always a pleasure and an honor. He is my favorite guitarist to jam with, and now we have another opportunity to take it to the stage. I feel as though we are both at the top of our game and that the show will be a powerful celebration of the coolest instrument in the world, the electric guitar!” - Steve Vai
The Satch-Vai tour starts March 22 and runs through May 11, 2024. Shows have now been added (**) for Springfield, MO and Santa Rosa, CA on April 26th and May 12th respectively.
