Greece's Rockpages has issued a new interview with vocalist JOHN CORABI (ex-MÖTLEY CRÜE, SCREAM). In the following excerpt, Corabi talks about what happened with Mötley Crüe:

Q: The 1994 Mötley Crüe self-titled record is regarded by fans and critics alike to be the heaviest of the band’s catalogue. Personally, after almost 20 years, I can’t get enough of it and I think it’s the best studio album of the band since the glory days of the 80s. What went wrong?

A: "You have to understand... again, it’s not the band. I truly believe that if the band would have been left alone, we would have been fine... but, Mötley Crüe the band is not used to... for a lack of a better term, they are not used to being losers. The record that I did (with them) didn’t really sell that well. The last studio record that they did (before that) was Dr. Feelgood, which, as you remember, probably sold 12 or 13 million copies globally! It was a huge record. After that record, Mötley Crüe went into their record label and renegotiated their contract. They got a lot of money from Electra Records. 30, 40, 50 million dollars... something like that. Six or seven months later, Mötley Crüe called the record label and said: 'we fired our singer'... or he quit, whatever the deal was. I have to admit, right from the beginning, the record company wasn’t happy that they just paid this band all these money and their frontman is going now. From a business point of view, I have to say that... if you buy something from a store or you see a picture, you buy it, you get it in the mail and it doesn’t look the same you’re gonna send it back. The American music scene was changing drastically and bands like Mötley Crüe, POISON and all these huge bands from the 80s weren’t so popular anymore. The new bands that they were coming on were NIRVANA, SOUNDGARDEN... so the music industry was changing or the sound of music was changing, the record company wasn’t happy but they still let us go in the studio and record the album. I think we did a great job; the album was amazing; I know that all the guys... if you ask the guys individually what their favorite (Mötley Crüe) record is... most of them, I don’t know about Nikki... I know Tommy and Mick have been very verbal and said the best record that they ever did was the one that they did with me. It was just a bunch of different shit altogether... there were so many reasons around why this record didn’t work or why we didn’t get any support."
