KADAVAR Post New Album Track-By-Track Commentary Part 2; Tour Dates Announced
March 20, 2013, 11 years ago
Berlin-based classic/psychedelic hard rock trio KADAVAR presents the second part of the track-by-track commentaries for its upcoming second studio album Abra Kadavar, to be released via Nuclear Blast on April 12. Vocalist/guitarist Lupus Lindemann and drummer Tiger provide the background information below.
The photo for the cover artwork was taken by photographer/ex-STEREOLAB drummer Joe Dilworth. Kadavar’s frontman Lupus Lindemann states: “Joe had already worked with us for our debut album. He’s one of the best photographers I know and always understood our ideas which is why we wanted to cooperate with him again. He proudly brought an old camera from the 60’s and a colour film that had been expired for ten years to the shooting – hard to get and highly coveted, because it causes unpredictable deviants as far as colour and contrast are concerned. As one can see: We’ve used this very film!“
Abra Kadavar will be available in a limited edition digi-version including bonus track as well in different vinyl versions. The tracklist follows:
'Come Back Life'
'Doomsday Machine'
'Eye Of The Storm'
'Black Snake'
'Dust'
'Fire'
'Liquid Dream'
'Rhythm For Endless Minds'
'Abra Kadabra'
Bonus track:
'The Man I Shot'
The first part of the track-by-track commentary by vocalist/guitarist Lupus Lindemann, bassist Mammut and drummer Tiger:
'Come Back Life' - "On 'Come Back Life' we’ve tried to write similar melody lines for the vocals and guitar. After the song was done, I got the impression that someone had twiddled with out time machine and had sent us back to 1969!” (Tiger)
'Doomsday Machine' - "It’s both the second track on the album and the second song that was written for it, probably showcasing our trademark sound best. Between changes in tempo, single note riffs and guitar solos, the lyrical concept deals with destruction – inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s movie Dr. Strangelove.” (Lupus Lindemann)
'Eye Of The Storm' - "After playing this six-minute piece, my fingers always glow like fireflies – a rough storm on the high seas! One of the songs that might be most fun to play live, due to it’s multifacetedness. Not a single second of rest for your ears, if you don’t want to miss one of the song’s great twists and turns!” (Mammut)
'Black Snake' - "This song is about a friend of ours who’s been living in a small cave in the middle of Paris without water supply for about 10 years now. The cave is solely lighted by candles and filled with taxidermied animals and voodoo puppets – one for each of his ex-girlfriends. Try to recall a dark acid trip and multiply it by 10 – that’ll give you a rough idea...” (Lindemann)
The second track-by-track commentary by vocalist/guitarist Lupus Lindemann, bassist Mammut and drummer Tiger:
'Dust' - “I came up with the idea for this song while strolling through Berlin, when I suddenly looked into the hollow eyes of a man who was loitering at a supermarket near our studio. He’s hanging around there with his friends every day, drowning his sorrow in alcohol. At this sight I was wondering what he was waiting for and if there were any prospects left for him – or if he just wanted to return to the dust he’d once emerged from...” (Lupus Lindemann)
'Fire' - “Our first true love song. When the riff struck my mind, I first imagined the song to sound like an early STOOGES tune. However, once the track was finished, there was not much left of this.” (Tiger)
'Liquid Dream' - “This song’s about the trips we experienced during the past year. It’s hard to find the right people for it, but once you’ve found them, one can leave this world and dive into more exciting and colorful spheres together – far away from the grey city.” (Lupus Lindemann)
'Rhythm For Endless Minds' - “Krautrock is still a major influence for us. This track sounds different than a typical song of AMON DÜÜL or CAN, but then again, what’s typical Krautrock anyway?” (Tiger)
'Abra Kadabra' - “That’s what it sounds like when we don’t plan in advance what to record. First the rhythms for bass and guitar emerged. Afterwards we set up guitars, percussion, synthesizers etc. and just got started!” (Tiger)
The band are streaming the first single, 'Doomsday Machine', accompanied by exclusive on-the-road and behind-the-scenes video footage.
Regarding the song, the band explains: “It’s both the second track on the album and the second song that was written for it, probably showcasing our trademark sound best. Between changes in tempo, single note riffs and guitar solos, the lyrical concept deals with destruction – inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s movie Dr. Strangelove.”
