London Astoria Sets Closure Date
December 27, 2008, 15 years ago
According to Classicrockmagazine.com, London’s famous Astoria has set a date from which it will close its doors, although new news suggests that the site may still have a future as a music venue.
The club is due to be shut down on January 15th with dance promoters Manumission hosting the venue’s final night. The venue, as reported for many years, is to be shut to make way for the new Crossrail project that plans to install a tube line that will link east and west London.
It is still hoped that a replacement venue will be built to replace the Astoria. Managing director for Astoria owners Festival Republic has told NME.com: “”It is a sad day for music fans who are losing out to long planned and long awaited progress of London’s transport system. We can do no more than celebrate how good (Astoria) was and look forward to its replacement being born when construction begins.”
