June 12, 2011, 13 years ago
MEGADETH's David Ellefson will be dropping by the band's Cyber Army chat room for an exclusive live chat with fan club members on SAturday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. PDT (18:00 GMT). Ellefson will be giving away a five-string set of his SIT bass guitar strings and a Jim Dunlop tortex guitar pick that he actually used to play with on the recording of the new Megadeth album! Signed to the lucky winner personally by David! ...if you can answer his three trivia questions! Chat is exclusive to Megadeth Cyber Army members. Click here to join.
Ellefson recently checked in from Vic's Garage in San Marcos, CA - the band's personal studios - where he's been working on bass overdubs for the band's new album. Watch below as he takes us through some of the Jackson bass guitars he's been using in the studio:
Megadeth are currently recording their 13th album with Johnny K, who has worked with the likes of DISTURBED, 3 DOORS DOWN and FINGER ELEVEN. The album is expected to surface in the fall via Roadrunner Records.
When asked about the new material, Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine told BraveWords.com: "I’ve never set out to do a record and wanted it to be like, ‘it needs to be fast’ or ‘it needs to be faster than the last record’ or ‘it can’t be fast. It needs to be slow and heavy’ or ‘you’ve never done a concept record – what the hell is wrong with you? Why not do that?’ For me, music is music. It’s like when you put seeds into the ground. You never really know what’s going to break the surface. I still love the serendipity of making a song and not knowing what’s going to happen. You know Shawn Drover, a fellow countryman of yours and amazing drummer who is mind-blowingly good, just left today. We just finished the last track.”
