OBITUARY drummer Donald Tardy is featured in a new interview with Blistering.com. An excerpt is available below:
Blistering.com: You guys are making the EP and then the next full-length for next year. With what you have in store, what can the world expect on the next batch of material from Obituary?
Tardy: "Well, we know what our jobs are on this planet. People go out and buy an Obituary album because they want to hear an Obituary song. It’s absolutely grinding, straight forward music and we try to write the most classic Obituary riff each and every time we can whenever we start to write a new song for the album. We have four songs already and it sounds incredible. It sounds old-school, like our first two records. There’s also some mid-tempo grooves like on World Demise and I’m excited about it. If our fans are waiting and hoping for a new Obituary record, they’re going to be very happy."
Blistering.com: World Demise has always been my personal favorite Obituary album. I know it was criticized because it was a bit different at the time, but it’s your best one in my opinion. To you, what is your favorite Obituary album?
Tardy: "I love World Demise. It’s one of my favorites because it was fun in the studio. It was our fourth one so we already learned three different times how to record an album. When I was a young musician, I don’t even remember recording Slowly We Rot and I kind of remember recording Cause of Death. I do remember being terrified in the studio, though. When you’re at home practicing in your room, you feel awesome and comfortable. But when you’re in the studio and you see the record light pop on, you get nervous and you tighten up. It was terrifying. But by the time World Demise rolled around, I was very confident and I thought we wrote great songs. We also had a great team around us at Morrisound. It was great and I love World Demise. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite because The End Complete has some awesome songs on it, too. But World Demise, I’m very proud of that and I would not hesitate to hand an alien who just came to Earth and asked what death metal was. I would be happy if someone handed him a copy of World Demise."
