The Patriot Ledger's Patrick Ronan reports:

Heavy rainfall Sunday morning spawned feelings of frustration, anxiety and despair for Gerry McMorrow.

As the lead organizer of live music during Scituate’s Heritage Days, McMorrow said the wet weather significantly delayed the performance schedule, forced two acts to cancel and seemingly washed away any hopes of ending the festival on a high note.

Enter rock legend STEVEN TYLER, whose surprise appearance Sunday afternoon drew thousands of fans to Scituate Harbor and helped salvage an event that, only hours before, had all the makings of a washout.

“Everybody was numb, hardly believing what they were seeing onstage,” McMorrow, the owner of the Scituate Music Center on Front Street, said of Tyler’s impromptu performance.

The AEROSMITH frontman, who has garnered national attention in recent months because of his new gig on American Idol, took to the stage – on the corner of Otis Place and Front Street – at approximately 5 PM. He joined the JAMES MONTGOMERY BLUES BAND and Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford for two songs: the blues standard 'All Your Loving' and Aerosmith hit 'Train Kept a Rollin’.
