Sound Of The Beast: The Complete Headbanging History Of Heavy Metal is now available in French translation as Sound Of The Beast: L'Histoire Définitive du Heavy Metal from Editions Flammarion. The 470-page trade paperback includes a brand new ten-page Brief History Of French-Speaking Metal by author Ian Christe, placing bands like TRUST, SORTILEGE, VOIVOD, TREPONEM PAL, CRYPTOPSY, SAMAEL, ANTAEUS, GOJIRA and others into historical context.

Belgium's national news site Lesoir.be praises the translation: "This remarkable book manages - no small feat - to satisfy fans of 'the devil's music' as well as the uninitiated."

The critically-acclaimed "Bible of heavy metal," Sound of the Beast is currently available in Spanish, Czech, Finnish, German, and English -- with Italian and Japanese translations scheduled for 2009. The book has also spawned the weekly "heavy metal history lesson" show "Bloody Roots," now in its third year on Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack channel.

On a related note, Christe recently mended relations between the US and France during a Sirius interview with singer/guitarist Joe Duplantier of French metal titans Gojira.

Christe: "Before you go -- thanks for sending over the Marquis de Lafayette to help George Washington defeat the hated British."

Duplantier: "No problem. Thanks for World War II!"
