Spinefarm Records UK, which brought the Spinefarm brand to the UK from Finland in the Autumn of 2007, has now confirmed the release of its first ever label sampler.

An HMV exclusive, this specially-priced two-CD set features 31 acts and over two hours of music, all of it heavy on both attitude and riffs. In addition to bands such as NIGHTWISH and CHILDREN OF BODOM, bands who have been key to the growth of Spinefarm over the past decade, the sampler features a number of acts who have a more recent relationship with the company, the likes of fast-rising US heavyweights FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, Japanese visual-rockers D’ESPAIRSRAY, British black metallers BLUTVIAL and Swedish melodic rockers DEAD BY APRIL, who have enjoyed a No. 1 single and No. 2 album in their native land.

Given the history of Spinefarm, which started in Helsinki back in 1992, a label dedicated to developing the darker, more dramatic side of Finnish music, it’s only natural that the majority of the artists here have had a part to play in the development of that country’s rock scene; amongst the most influential are ENSIFERUM (dark heroic metal), SONATA ARCTICA (pumped-up power metal), MOONSORROW (grandiose, panoramic anthems), FINNTROLL (rabble-rousin’ folk metal), SWALLOW THE SUN (death/doom atmospherics) and REVEREND BIZARRE (expansive doom of the purest kind).
