Port of Spain, Trinidad may not be the first city music fans think of when the discussion of ‘hot rock spots’ comes up. But if the sophomore effort from ORANGE SKY, Dat Iz Voodoo, is a representation of the local talent, it may soon join the likes of New York, Seattle, and London.

Comprised of singer/lead guitarist Nigel Rojas, rhythm guitarist Joel Beazer, bassist Nicholas Rojas, keyboardist Richard Hall, and drummer Obasi Springer, the style that Orange Sky specialize in is quite varied... yet rocking.

Perhaps a fan once gave the group the highest compliment, by gushing, “You guys sound and perform like if the Wailers and Black Sabbath had a baby.”

“I call our sound ‘rock and roll’,” says Nigel. “We emulate everything - hard rock, soft rock, punk, reggae, and metal, so I think the term rock and roll covers all these styles, and does not create an expectation from the potential listener of us being too metal, too reggae, too hard, or too soft. Our overall style offers all these soundscapes, colors, and emotions.”

Dat Iz Voodoo, released via StarCity Records, represents a rebirth of sorts for Orange Sky, and proves that the group’s critically acclaimed debut, 2006’s Upstairs, was no fluke. Case in point, the album-opening riff monger 'Yesterdays and Tomorrows', the thrashy 'Psycho World', the industrial-strength reggae-rock of 'Is There Anybody There?' (which is a barely recognizable cover of a SCORPIONS song), and the crunching funk-metal riffs of 'Dark Room'.

A dozen songs in all, guaranteed to get fists pumping and moshpits swirling - with a couple of lighters-in-the-air/arm-around-your-girl moments in between.

And while Dat Iz Voodoo is a fine stylistic showcase for the group, the quintet promises fans that they will take it to the next level on the album’s ensuing tour.

“Orange Sky live is one hell of a bad ass, fist pumping, heart melting, hilarious, thought provoking assault on the nervous system! Within an hour, our show will turn everyone exposed to us into our new friends and future Orange Sky seed sowers. Sounds arrogant? Not intended, just what we know what we are capable of - ask anyone who has been there. We seriously rock!”
