Although Amazon still has it listed (stating "a release date has not yet been set for this title") the official VAN HALEN Store says that The Studio Albums 1978-1984 box set has been cancelled.
Their explanation reads as follows: "On February 6th, we began taking pre-orders for the Van Halen Box Set, which was to be released on March 26th (per the record company, Warner Bros/Rhino). However, on Feb 10th, the record company informed us that the March 26 release date has been canceled. At that time, they did not know if the release date was simply being pushed back, or if the release was to be canceled altogether. Today we received the final word from Warner Bros; the Box Set has indeed been permanently cancelled and will never be released in the United States."
The Studio Albums 1978-1984 was originally described as follows:
This Limited Edition six-CD box set documents the band’s indelible history from their self-titled 1978 debut until the 1984 album, which was to be singer David Lee Roth’s last record with the band until 2012. Included in this box are many of the band’s best-known songs - ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love’, ‘ Runnin’ With The Devil’, ‘Jump’, ‘Dance The Night Away’, ‘Unchained’, ‘Everybody Wants Some’, ‘Hot For Teacher’ and ‘Panama’.
The Studio Albums 1978-1984 is a no-frills package of VH’s incredible era with original vocalist David Lee Roth at the helm, remastered and neatly packaged in clamshell box. Featuring the now-immortal six-string styles of Eddie Van Halen, the devastating rhythm section of bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Alex Van Halen and the clean production of Ted Templeman, this box is a crash course in BIG ROCK.
