VOIVOD have been writing material for their upcoming album and follow-up to 2009's Infini, which included contributions by their late original guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour.

The band are currently in pre-production and have posted more studio photos at this location.

A previous band update states: "The guys are recording a couple of news songs at their rehearsal spot, expect something in the vein of Nothingface with some elements from the other albums. It will be a classic Voivod album."

Expect the album next spring.

Organizers of the 2012 edition of Holland's Roadburn Festival recently checked in with the following update:

"We’re extremely proud to unveil the official artwork for the 2012 festival by Voivod's Michel “Away” Langevin. Inspired by sci-fi art of the 50’s, 60’s op art and early 80?s computer-game robotic creatures from another galaxy, Away depicts Roadburn as a head spinning, extraterrestrial invasion from a world far beyond the outer limits that only he could imagine.

Michel’s artistic take on Roadburn is like an intergalactic concoction exploding in your head — it’s a trip through another dimension — evoking gargantuan riffs in your mind’s ear while you explore those vast planets your mind creates. It’s an absolute honor to have his extraordinary brand of art as the official artwork for Roadburn 2012, as it’s in perfect consonance with the festival’s left-field sonic approach."

Roadburn organizers recently announced that Montreal's DOPETHRONE will play Voivod‘s Au-delà Du Réel on Friday, April 13th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. Au-delà du Réel was named after Voivod’s favorite sci-fi show, The Outer Limits, when it was broadcast in french during the '70s.

Among the acts confirmed for Roadburn 2012 are: CORONER, AGALLOCH, SÓLSTAFIR, LEAF HOUND, 40 WATT SUN, DEVIL, THE OBSESSED, diSEMBOWELMENT, SLEEP, OM, LEAF HOUND, VIRUS, HEXVESSEL, DAERK BUDDHA RISING, AGALLOCH, SÓLSTAFIR and 40 WATT SUN.

Roadburn Festival 2012 will run for four days from Thursday, April 12th to Sunday, April 15th (the traditional Afterburner) at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. Pre-sales will start Saturday, November 26th, 2011.
