Eric MacKinnon at RockAAA.com recently caught up with WARRANT bassist Jerry Dixon to discuss the band's new album, Rockaholic, and look back on the band's breakthrough album, Cherry Pie, and the mega-hit title track. An excerpt from the story is available below:

On Cherry Pie: “That record was done and the president of Columbia Records thought we need one more song, an upbeat anthem kinda like ‘We Will Rock You’ chanting kind of song. A couple of days later ‘Cherry Pie’ was written, we set everything up, recorded it and there wasn’t a lot of thought put into it. It was a last minute thing so for it to turn into of the biggest things we ever did was crazy – maybe we should have done them all like that. In my opinion a hit is something that is contrived when a label shoves a song down your throat and has radio playing it. It is really just people hearing it over and over. Yes, it has to be a good song but if you hear something enough and people tell you enough times something is a hit – then it will be a hit.”

On Rockaholic: “If you don’t expect too much out of it then it’s more of a creative process and a tool which goes with the touring and all that stuff. I like to put new music out. Of course it will always be compared to the early days of Cherry Pie but whatever.I think Rockaholic has a good vibe for the time and the timing is right. It’s a good rock n’ roll record for the summer and I’m proud of it. This band has been through a lot of ups and downs so every time we can get a new record out there it is like giving birth to a new kid.”

Warrant guitarist Erik Turner recently spoke to BraveWords.com recently about working with new singer Robert Mason (ex-LYNCH MOB). “It’s another evolution in the band’s sound and song writing," he says. "Of course, having Robert on vocals and writing is a huge stamp for any band. The vocalist is a big deal in identifying a band, but it still sounds very Warrant. You’ve got four guys from the original Warrant playing all the music. Jerry (Dixon, bass) is writing a lot and I wrote a little bit, so it feels like a natural progression of our sound and where we’re at in our lives right now.”
