INTERCEPTOR - Interceptor

Been listening to Spanish-only metal since Baron Rojo dominated the pages of Kerrang, in the early ‘80s, so no fear of the debut from this traditional minded Argentine band (all lyrics in native tongue). The artwork sports a Mad Max inspired landscape; the man, his dog and (their) namesake Interceptor overlooking the fortified gas refinery. With a kick drum flourish, its right into the swaying Judas Priest twin harmonies of “La Cupula Del Trueno” punctuated by the occasional trilling voice of Luis Thor.
Lots of love for Running Wild on their Facebook page, although stylistically they share nothing with the noted Germans, apart from the odd, off-kilter vocal (opening of “La Piel Fria”). Could do with a few up-tempo Priest, or even the Pirates' harmonics, for variety. That said, it's still an impressive first effort, a well-oiled meat & potatoes metal machine, ticking off the requisite boxes. Each of the ten inclusions features a short guitar break. In the closing stretches of “Devorador De Mares”, the Maiden inspired twin leads give way to a short, concluding bass solo. More dual guitars on “La Furia Del Norte”. Following a horror beast sound effect, it's a galloping “La Llamada De Cthulhu”, perhaps the most consistent track, start-to-finish, although the gritty, old school guitar tones in “Puño De Acero” see the guitarist really go off.
