LORD VOLTURE - Will To Power
October 29, 2014, 10 years ago
(Mausoleum Records)
Not to be confused with the similarly traditionally minded Volture, out of Virginia, after a pair of self-issued albums, these nine tracks represent the Dutch outfit's first label (widely distributed) deal. Like past efforts, which included guests like Sean Peck (Cage) and Jeff Waters (Annihilator), former Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland can be heard on “The Great Blinding”. Much of their sound rides into high pitched vocals, meat & potatoes Brainstorm territory, especially “My Sworn Enemy”, drum laden title track, aggressive “Line Em Up” finale and the twin Germanic guitars of the disc opening “Where The Enemy Sleep”. Elsewhere, there's the Iced Earth inspired, acoustic begun “Omerta”, a Van Canto style choir accompanied “Badajoz (1812)” and “The Pugilist”, an '80s flashback. Quality constructions, just a little more differentiation to move up to the first division.
